so, basically the first thing i did on new year's eve was go shooting at the target range with jim. hatton came with, and so did eric... dp's boyfriend whose last name i do not remember. it was awesome. hatton and i showed up first at jim's when he was cleaning one of his guns. we made a few of our own bullets (.45s). we went up to this place off peachtree industrial. it was it's own little building in the parking lot of a strip mall. took dad's guns up there and we shot them and jim's guns. he didn't even bring all of his... but what he brought was plenty. so anyway. i had a great time doing that. and here's my disclaimer slash public service announcement: i think that it's useful to know how to operate a firearm. and that everyone should be instructed and practice on occasion. i am neither an advocate for stronger gun restrictions nor am i an advocate for no gun restrictions.
ok...
you know you're getting old when it's 10pm on new year's eve and one of the best options of things to do is just go to bed. damn this getting old thing. it's depressing. i was seriously considering going to bed early. no. seriously. i was also considering showing up at my physical therapist's house and asking where my steak was, since chris had invited me over for steaks and board games. it's funny to show up at places where people don't anticipate that you would.
kate and i finally headed out of the house after watching several hours of project runway reruns on fx. we went to beth and matt's place - people were eating sushi, chicken curry, and other yummy stuff. matt was making martinis - dirty, chocolate, whatever you wanted really. the chocolate ones seemed to be relatively dangerous. lots of champagne made it to the party, and we had a good toast at midnight. there ended up being a few not very sober individuals who will go unnamed. extremely funny. there was a randomly drawn coed doubles ping pong tournament. we shot some pool. and we were there til almost 2am. then we went to stu and shannon's (brought oetter with us) for some singing around the campfire. as kate and i were about to leave (a whole bunch of us were trying to leave actually), stu started playing "only you" on the guitar... so we sang it a cappella, the bunch of us arm in arm in a tiny little circle next to the firepit. and then went home to bed. ah. sleeping.
new year's day. i ate so much food on new year's day. we slept in. then went to molly chase's house for the traditionals plus much much more. she had blackeyed peas, collard greens, cornbread. but also: quiches, powdered donuts, pastries, chocolate, cheesey poofs, bloody marys with all the possible toppings you could ever want, coffee, beer, ahhh. the people i knew there (or who showed up while we were there): emily, shelley, dana, eric, marie, and brian. then we went to larry and kyle's place for their new year's thingy. a few people there i hadn't seen in a while. lisa, pete, scott line, and 2 ladies we met at larry and kyle's a long time ago (tanya and njeri i think are their names). i had a little dessert there, but they also appeared to have fantastic food. then we went to see brokeback mountain. excellent movie. and then, we went to the shropshire's for more peas, greens, and cornbread. whew. then we were going to drop jim off at 97 estoria, but ended up going in for a beer and to listen to keiran for a bit. a lot of jim and kate's friends from earlier years of djing and such were there. gary said he's now at django and we should come by. some dude put his arm around me at the bar. and some other dude thought we were cruising him and came over to say happy new year. we didn't stay long. went to meet mak and kid at jordan and terri's house to hang out. they were having a little new year's football get together. first time ever at jordan's place. nice. ate a few snacks. drank a beer. chatted. got home around 11:30.
