Day 14a: last day of flying disc at WGs

Rode in a cab w/ amanda to the stadium this am b/c the usa bus wasn't going to get her there in time for the 2nd game - an important one betw AUS and CAN. If Australia won, they would go to the finals assuming US beat Japan. I snuck into the players and staff entrance w/ amanda, so I was able to be on the field. Canada won by 4 instead. Which meant that the US v Japan game didn't really matter, both teams would go to finals, and all the other afternoon games would be rematches of the morning's games as well.

Right as the US v Japan game was starting, I spotted the sandos coming down the steps of our side of the stadium. I waved and talked to them for a minute. It's hot down there on the field. The game was exciting and close. I put on one of Chelsea's jerseys a bit later on the request of one of the wfdf staff in order to blend in more. Neither tank nor amanda were working this game either, so we were all cheering and trying to help out. US was down a couple throughout the first half, and I think the half score was 7-6 or 7-5 Japan. Cate Foster started feeling weird right before the half and had to have help walking down to the medical area. I think basically heat exhaustion - she couldn't get her temp down. Amanda and Meredith were w/ her, as well as lloyd, and meredith gave me the job of the simple stats (points in, goals assists turns). The Japanese team has been playing a weird poachy d... not really zone but not exactly tight person either... sometimes w/ a mark that is slow to get on.. but it does tend to throw teams off. Still trying to figure it out, and we'll see if they play it tonight. USA didn't play great.. it was also super hot out there (96F at least). I tried to do a little talking to some people on the field, and a bunch of cheering. in the end the US lost 13-11. Cate didn't make it back out there in the second half to play, but is feeling better now after a lot of fluids, ice, and some rest and food. I went w/ them to the catering center where flanked by seth, gwen, and somebody else, I was able to get in there too. hung out there for a bit. Now back at the stadium where I managed to get in again (I forgot my pass of course), using their internet to try and work out some deets for the following few days of travel. gonna go watch some ultimate now I think. more later.

i meant to mention that yesterday when people were getting discs signed, i remembered sitting around in a circle at potlatch w/ the 2005 team passing around what seemed like a thousand discs to sign. ah, memories.
