picture of the week 1.20

a house caught on fire in kirkwood two nights ago 8/9/06 (technically early am 8/10/06)... called 911 at 12:36 am according to my phone. they prob got water running on the house about 12 minutes later.

weird thing was that kate and i smelled a faint smokiness when we got home around 11:30p. didn't seem like it was coming from the inside of my house, and then we didn't think about it anymore until people in a car started laying on the horn outside. i hopped up when i heard the horns, saw a big flame down the street (on warlick), and said, "oh shit," as i put shoes on walked outside dialed 911. someone had already reported it. no cops on the scene yet... there may have been one other person out there from the lofts. couple cars drove by before cops came - one lady hopped out, started taking pictures, and saying "oh my grandmama's house!" i clarified with her that the grandmama didn't live there anymore.

fire looked like it started in the front. the front porch awning and the front of the house were in flames when we got there. it got to the power line pretty quickly, that fell, and there were lots of sparks. we stood kinda far back after that... we could see and hear the electricity (blue - no joke) zapping around the front yard. fire started spreading upwards in the house pretty quick, started coming out the window of the right upstairs room, and started catching the trees above. and the heat was big, even as far back as we were. got closer later to snap a few pics when the firemen had the hoses going.
