landmarks of note.

so... i was sorta bad about doing physical/emotional checkpoints here for this whole recovery... maybe i can try to sum up a little.

physical:
i think i went down to 1 crutch right about after my appointment with X on 10/3. that would be about 7 weeks out. by then, calluses had formed on the heels of my palms, and my wrists and shoulders were getting pretty sore from supporting me. then, i really first started hobbling around without crutches the weekend of shrop trot (10/15). so, that's about 9 weeks out. still couldn't go too far without a crutch or there would be a lot of uncomfortability. on 10/18 i went to the dmv to try and get a handicap parking permit - although i could've probably walked in there without a crutch, i figured it would be better for my case if i walked in with it. probably a good idea anyway, since i would've been limping some without it. i ended up not being able to get the permit (no license # on X's section...), but then i waited in the waiting room to change my license address. painful. ok, i digress. by nationals weekend (10/26) i could walk around w/o crutches pretty comfortably, but still only for relatively short distances. walking around the field site was somewhat of a pain (i got cart rides a few times). cara and i tried to be mobile on the sidelines, but often had to take breathers. stairs: around 11/14, going up started to become a lot easier. down was still more of a challenge. now, at 11/30, it still is worse going down than up, and more often than not i take the elevator either way. but, instead of always having to step down right foot first, bring my left down to match, and start over.... (not ideal and very slow)... i can go one foot in front of the other w/o too much uncomfortability. it's getting better. pain: i get some (achiness mostly; nothing really sharp) when it's cold or raining.

hmm. emotional progress. i might have to save this for another time. for awhile, i was definitely growing weary of explaining to everybody why i was on crutches and how much longer....
